I had a fun opportunity to talk about fun tips for outdoor parties and entertaining on Fresh Living this morning. It was so fun!
When I think of outdoor entertaining, I think small gatherings of 4-6 people and it’s a fun way to show off a new dish you made, or new place settings, and keep things intimate.
On the segment I had our local Crate and Barrel show off their fun Lunea Melamine Dinnerware Collection. I love the look of melamine, and it helps reduce waste by avoiding paper plates and napkins. The Vista square place mat was a perfect natural element to complete the setting.
The table is from Alpine Event rentals, can you believe you can rent this fabulous farmhouse table and benches for $100?! so if you want to entertain but don’t want to invest in a big patio or outdoor set, definitely rent it from Alpine. P.S. if you go like their Facebook page, you get 20% off your event rentals!
Another tip is re purposing items you may own already such as the handpainted jars, made by Lark’s Closet, and the big Silver Delhi Tray from Crate and Barrel, used here as our table runner and anchor for our centerpiece.
A big trend also in entertaining is linen napkins, and doubling up! then you will have two for each guest, one for main course and one for dessert so you aren’t constantly using a dirty napkin. I love the galvanized iron napkin rings, brings in such a fun flair to the table.
I love fresh flowers in vases but i also love herbs! herbs are a great natural bug repellent, especially mint, lavender, lemon balm and plants like eucalyptus are great too! For our segment I purchased tube roses, snap dragons, daisies and lillies and mixed in some thyme, rosemary, and fresh oregano. In my event below I used mums, eucalyptus and lavender.
Our Summer menu was provided by Brown Brothers Catering, and Tony made such a yummy outdoor friendly spread!
I like to keep dinner parties interactive and have guests participate in something fun, such as our Lemonade mixin’s. Especially if your guests don’t know each other well, this really is a great icebreaker and tastes yummy too. You can do any fruit, pureed, and mix with lemonade, limeade, iced tea, any fruit juice or even Sorbet! I actually had this done for a group of girls and they loved it, as you can see! all pictures courtesy of the amazing Amanda Kay Memories
