Christmas Tree-t 2016

This year for Christmas, I decided to be a little more low-key on the tree trimming. partly cause of time and partly cause I have a bad case of POPD (perfect ornament placement disorder)  I thought if I made it humble and rustic that POPD wouldn’t kick in….as much.

this was last years tree and you can see it is way more shmancy…

But I really enjoyed making this Christmas Treat Tree..Christmas Tree-t.

So I made a some fun candy ornaments, gingerbread cookie cut outs and a spice drop garland.

For the round peppermint candy ornaments, I used a muffin tin and placed three inside. spray the tin with cooking spray  and then bake at 350 for about 9 minutes until you see it melt together. when you pull it out, create the holes for the twine using a toothpick or skewer, but you have to wait about 3 minutes for some of that heat to stop melting the candy or else your hole will melt back. if you have a silicone cupcake baking mold, that would be ideal, I ruined my tin one a little bit when i was trying to get the circles out with a pairing knife.

For the gingerbread, I just used a boxed mix. for some reason the store I went to didn’t sell the gingerbread man shaped cookie cutters by itself, So I just bought a set of the santa, star, and tree ( I thought the tree was a leaf so we have upside down trees,  honest mistake haha)

I had such a great time with my 2-year-old rolling out the dough and cutting out the shapes. it is such a fun activity to do with your kids!

I also traced the shape of my children’s hands just as a little memento

The spice drop garland is strung together with just string and looped around a toothpick holding 4 drops. dsc_0737

and then the topper was just peppermint candies melted into a metal heart shaped cookie cutter I had on hand.

Last year we only had one child

and this year we will have two..we are certainly blessed. I hope you had or will have tons of fun trimming your Christmas trees for 2016!!
